About the RMS Mauretania

The RMS Mauretania was a British ocean liner built by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson for the Cunard Line. Launched in 1906, she entered service in 1907 and quickly became famous for her speed, luxurious interiors and innovative engineering. Powered by steam turbines, she won the prestigious Blue Riband in 1907 for the fastest transatlantic crossing and held the record for 20 years. The Mauretania sailed regularly between Britain and North America, becoming one of the most celebrated liners of her era. During World War I, she served as a troopship and hospital ship. After the war, she returned to passenger service and continued crossing the Atlantic until her retirement in 1934. She was scrapped in 1935, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the most influential ocean liners in maritime history.
